- Kaiya Marjoribanks

Artist Catherine King will be drawing to tango music in a public event to help launch the 8th annual Forth Valley Artbeat –(formerly Open Studios).

Stirling based dancers Ariel and Alenk Jalen will tango while Catherine, a lecturer at Forth Valley College, will demonstrate her signature drawing skills in capturing movement.

The event will take place in the Tolbooth on June 10 from 2-3pm and it marks the opening of a nine-day series of open studios, workshops and pop up exhibitions throughout central Scotland.

Project coordinator Avril Nicol said: “Our focus is to raise awareness of artists living and working in the area and to help connect the community with their art.”

Visitors will have a chance to sample a wide variety of workshops from a taster session with Lesley McDermott in the Cowane Centre, designing their own tote bag with Staci Rowlinson in the Made in Stirling shop, hand loom weaving workshop with Justine Bainbridge, marbling with Christine McIver and a jewellery demo and workshop by Jo Pudelko.

New this year is an open-air exhibition on Flanders Moss based on the board walkaway, which has been turned into an outdoor exhibition centre.

Over in Falkirk, meanwhile, Lesley Banks, artist in residence with Scottish Canals, will be showing her work in Callendar House.

Forth Valley Artbeat will run from June 10-18. For further information email avril@forthvalleyopenstudios. com or call 07711 285545 , or contact Ann Shaw by emailing annshaw@ mac.com , call 07543 671260.
