Kevin is a composer, musical director and accomplish­ed musician, currently organist of Dunblane Cathedral and musical director of the Roseneath singers. Simon and Ursula specialise in Early and Baroque music. Simon lives in Cambridge and Ursula in Denmark and were among the distinguis­hed soloists at the recent performanc­e of the Bach St John Passion at Dunblane Cathedral sung by the Rosenethe Singers, with Kevin Duggan conducting. Concert The full Scottish Chamber Orchestra play in McLaren High School on Thursday, June 8 with a sunny, lyrical programme of music with a distinctly Scandinavi­an flavour. Norwegian composer Grieg’s Holberg Suite is followed by a clarinet concerto by Finnish composer Crusell which will be performed by the SCO’s Principal Clarinet, Maximilian­o Martin. Next, the Pastoral Suite by Swedish composer Erik Larsson is inspired by poetry, and the concert finishes with Schubert’s joyful Third Symphony. Church On Sunday from 9.30-11am come and enjoy a full Scottish breakfast and donate to Christian Aid and MAF. Service follows at 11.30am which is a joint service with Buchanan. The evening prayer meeting is at 7pm. Senior Citizens’ Associatio­n Members and friends enjoyed a coach outing to Oban on Monday. The wet weather did not dampen spirits, and although it was raining when the bus stopped at the Green Welly for a bite of lunch, the rain stopped as it arrived in Oban. Members had a couple of free hours to have a wee wander round the town, and then we all met up again in the Royal Hotel for high tea which was enjoyed by all. The trip back home was via Inverary and the better weather allowed everyone to fully appreciate the wonderful scenery. The club has now adjourned until September.

Vintage bikes Once again the recent Sunday morning visit to Kippen Main Street by the Stirling Castle section of Vintage Motorclycl­e Clubs brought many to see the bikes and talk to the riders. Later they headed off for a pleasant run to Alloa, returning in mid-afternoon. During both stops and in McNicoll’s Stores, many coins were collected and organiser Davie Brown thanks all who helped raise £179.38 for Robin House at Balloch. Football Kippen FC has started its 117th season with a win, loss and draw - not bad for a young team. They defeated Aberfoyle 3-2 on Tuesday at Kippen. All present observed a minute’s silence at the start in tribute to Donnie Beaton, long-serving secretary of the Forth and Endrick League, who died suddenly. Bowls Points winners on Monday were Donald Smith, George Goodall, Maureen MacColl and Glen Hughes. The first match in the Forth and Endrick League is tonight (Friday) with home and away ties against Strathblan­e. Both ties start promptly at 6.45pm. Good luck to both Kippen teams. Soup lunch In the village hall on Sunday, June 4, 11am-2pm, entry by donation. All profits will help the East African famine crisis.
