Endrick joy at season of victory

- Tom Yuill

Strathendrick brought down the curtain on a successful rugby season on Saturday.

The annual President’s XV v Captain’s XV match took place and before kick-off skipper Kyle Campbell accepted the BT West League 3 trophy to go along with the West District Bowl - Endrick’s first double.

Despite heavy showers a good crowd watched the annual fixture.

The red-clad President’s men featured former stalwarts, a few current players, one or two younger members and some friends of the club who play elsewhere. They were led by Alan Vickers, who had a good season in the league team.

The Captain’s side in blue and white was led by Kyle Campbell.

The President’s XV applied early pressure but the Captain’’s side held out before Ben Anderson provided the first try of the day. Campbell added the extras.

Conor Gibson went over for a second try and before the break Anderson had added two more. With another two successful kicks from Campbell, the Blues had a 26-0 lead at the interval.

James Ogilvy stretched that lead with a try before Vickers put points on the board with the Reds’ only score.

Coach Neil Callander had the Captain’s next try and his side had the last word with their seventh try in the final minute for a 43-5 win.
