- Court Reporter

A drunk who abused police officers has been sentenced to unpaid work.

Jack James Thomas Martin, of Woodside Road, pleaded guilty to behaving in a threatening or abusive manner in Upper Bridge Street on December 16 of last year.

Stirling Sheriff Court heard on Wednesday that the 27-year-old had been headed to a house in the street for a party.

However he knocked on the wrong door at around 8pm, and was informed that no party was taking place.

Police were called to the disturbance and Martin was aggressive towards officers.

Fiscal depute Laura Knox said: “He was making threats towards police officers, saying that he was ‘going to put the heid’ on them.

“He made a move towards police officers, and he said was going to ‘kick their heads in’.”

Martin was struck with a baton and restrained, but repeatedly directed homophobic slurs towards one of the officers.

Defending, Frazer McCready said the accused had been out drinking with his brother.

He said: “They appeared to have gone to a house party, but went to the wrong house.”

Sheriff William Gilchrist remarked: “According to the report, he had consumed several beers, a bottle of Mad Dog and a bottle of Buckfast. All for himself?”

Mr McCready replied: “Yes My Lord.” “It’s no wonder he doesn’t remember anything then,” the Sheriff added.

Martin was sentenced to 100 hours unpaid work, which must be completed within four months.
