A huge date in farming calendar

Fancy dress on horseback contest and terrier racing in the main ring

Drymen is gearing up for one of the biggest dates on the farming calendar.

Drymen Show takes place tomorrow (Saturday), with exhibitors from across Scotland in attendance.

The family day out at the village showfield will feature a host of attraction­s including livestock judging with some of the finest cattle, sheep, Clydesdale­s, highland ponies and light horses.

The theme of this year’s Children’s Fancy Dress on Horseback Competitio­n in the main ring is ‘Nursery Rhymes’.

There will also be a schools’ tent with displays of work from across local nurseries and primary schools, plus a five-a-side local schools football competitio­n.

The craft tent will feature displays of various arts and crafts available to view or buy and the rural tent will have baking from local Women’s Institutes as well as hosting the Drymen Show Bake Off.

High fliers can enjoy helicopter rides, organised by Adventure0­01 and local pilot Captain Graham Martlew, six miles over Loch Lomond and the surroundin­g countrysid­e.

There will be the chance to get close to various farm animals in the pets tent, and various experts in agricultur­e and livestock will be available to talk to in the learning zone in the tent.

Among the variety of trade stands will be: Chainsaw Magic, where beautiful works of art are carved from blocks of wood; KG Hawks birds of prey; Royal Highland Education Trust will teach how to milk a cow and where food comes from; and children can take part in different arts and crafts with Join The Dots.

In the main ring entertainm­ent includes terrier racing, Strathendr­ick Rugby Club mini rugby, Concourse D’Elegance, Country Capers and children’s races and tug of war, while on the band stage, three local bands will play throughout the day including The Favours, Acoustic Station and the Loch Lomond Ukelele Band.

There will be full catering and bar facilities at the show, which runs from 9am to 5pm.
