Linda looks back at sports event
Now it’s national championships
Balfron High
Forth Valley Disability Sports Linda Lochans took part in the recent event at Grangemouth.
Here is Linda’s review of her day: Miss Hinchliffe took a group of pupils to the event on Wednesday, May 10.
I went in for the shot putt and the 100m. The starting gun was too loud and gave me a bit of a fright, but once I was off, there was no stopping me – I was getting to the finishing line. I just wanted to get there first.
Once I crossed the line, I was amazed to find I had won. I also entered the shot putt and was told that I had won that too. The award ceremony was very long.
Max Tysall had been given his medals – he got two gold medals – and then to my surprise they called out my name and I went up to the podium to receive my medals.
It was a great end to a great day! As a result of their fantastic victories both Linda and Max have been selected to represent Forth Valley in the Track and Field National Championships at the Forth Valley Disability Sports Event.
Alloa Academy
Inter-House competition Once again last week’s house competition featured only S2-S4 so there are only 18 points up for grabs. Schaw were again in first place with seven points, Bruce came second with six and Erskine were in third place with five points.
2S1 topped the board for the highest number of weekly co-operation merits and 3S1 had the best homework return rate.
The final of the project took place on Friday with all three teams serving their chosen menu to groups of staff. The decor was specially designed by each team as was the shape and set-up of the cafes. Results were extremely close, but Taste of Paris (Libby Roger, Ryan Clark, Susie Lambert and Rory McMahon) ended up in first place, with The Coffee Cup in second and Café to the Stars in third place. Well done to all who made it to the final and to the whole of S2 who participated so well in this experience. Recipes for the soups were also shared with staff.
Congratulations to the S2s who completed a series of lessons on brass instruments. The project has been extremely successful and three students who had no experience of playing a brass instrument are now able to play short pieces of music.
The programme is gearing up and looking forward to welcoming the new S1s to the school for a variety of different activities. CSI Alloa will take place over the next few weeks as will the Music and Art extravaganza. The P7 Health Challenge took place on Tuesday and visits from staff from all subjects to P7 classes will begin in earnest next week.
Everyone is invited to visit the school from 4-6pm on Wednesday, June 14 to see examples of the work produced by students. There will be live demonstrations of lessons, a café and the opportunity to chat to staff about the work of the school.
The SQA exams are proceeding well within the school and attendance and conduct have been excellent. Students should return to full attendance at school on the Monday following their final SQA exam.
The added value unit for our new S4s will be taking place at Lornshill Academy’s running track on the first Monday and Tuesday of June.
This is a great opportunity for S4 to get one major part of their SQA PE qualification completed and allow a greater focus on practical performance throughout the year.
