- Chris Marzella

A man had to be cut free from his vehicle following a road smash on the A9.

The man in his thirties, who had been trapped, was airlifted to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary following the crash on Monday morning on the A9 north of Dunblane. The crash involved a 4x4 and a lorry. The driver of the 4x4 suffered non-life threatening injuries in the incident but had to be freed from the vehicle by firefighters before being transferred.

Police, fire and ambulances services were all on the scene.

A spokesman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said:“At 9.36am on Monday, June 5, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service was alerted to reports of a road traffic collision between a 4x4 and a lorry on the A9 near Balhaldie Service Station.

“Five appliances attended and firefighters used cutting gear to free the driver of the 4x4 before transferring them into the care of paramedics.

“Crews ensured the area was made safe before leaving the scene.”

The Scottish Ambulance Service had a large presence at the scene. A spokesperson said:“We dispatched two ambulances, the trauma team, our heli-med air ambulance and a manager to the incident.

“One male patient in his thirties was taken to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary by air ambulance.”

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “The road was closed in both directions for a time, and the patience and understanding of drivers in the area was greatly appreciated.”

The road was then fully re-opened at 1.45pm.

A 25-year-old man was killed in a road smash on the A9, near the Keir Roundabout, in April.
