Charity seeking volunteers

-

A Stirling-based service for people dealing with painful and difficult emotions resulting from separation and divorce is seeking more volunteers.

Since 2003 Heart to Heart has been supporting children and adults, helping them to find hope and develop personal strategies to deal with their personal painful circumstances.

All services are free and it is the only charity in Scotland providing information and advice in this way.

Children aged eight to 18 years old experiencing parental relationship breakdown are offered one on one support from a trained ‘Life Guide’, themselves all aged between 18 and 25 years old who have personal experience of parental relationship breakdown and want to help and support other young people having similar experiences.

The Life Guides are volunteers trained by Heart to Heart to deliver six weeks of individual, personal support to the children during which they are supervised by Heart to Heart - who also provide any additional, ongoing training and continuous support.

Adults dealing with separation or divorce are offered a six week facilitated support course one evening a week focusing on giving them coping strategies.

The course is a “safe and confidential environment where participants have the chance to share, or just listen”.

The proven models of support are based heavily on the training, equipping and empowering of volunteers and the further use of their time.

In order to properly train and supervise its volunteers, including Life Guides, Heart to Heart employ minimal staff, who have significant therapeutic experience.

People can help by volunteering or by making a financial contribution, which will be used where most needed including employing staff to continue to deliver training and supervision to volunteers, enabling the service to continue to help and support more people.
