Primary Engineers 2017 The school was delighted to hold the final of Stirling’s Primary Engineering Project recently. The day was facilitated by the Primary Engineers Group and consisted of a number of tests on the vehicles made by primary pupils leading up the event. The cars that had been made had to undertake a number of competition style challenges including successfully getting to the top of a ramp and being manoeuvred in a straight line. In addition, pupils had to articulate what they have learned as part of the engineering project they had been involved in. The winning team was from St Margaret’s Primary School, Cowie, with St Bernadette’s PS, Tullibody in second. Following the competition, the pupils took part in a technology challenge by Miss Gibson from the Maths and Technology Department at St Modan’s. It was a fun and interactive event for all involved. School mini farm The mini farm which is attached to the autism provision base is coming along nicely. A new “tiny farm building” is now pride of place in the mini farm. Thanks to Gary and team from Paterson’s Garden Buildings, Green Space Scotland and Tesco Scotland for their contributions. Court Hotel; June 22-23 - Jack and the Beanstalk, doors open 7pm. Indian trip A group of Indian youngsters were delighted to receive stationery gifts from Beaconhurst pupils recently. Stirling University student Liam Grimmer – who has been doing a placement with the PE department at Beaconhurst - took out the kits during a visit to Bangalore. He is there as part of a football development programme with other students

from Stirling University FC. They are working with the Parikrma Foundation which educates children from poorer backgrounds. He said: “Bangalore is an incredible place, from coaching the humble children and young people of Parikrma Foundation to learning about life and values through football to visiting slum communities and the incredibly hospitable people living there. Coaching 84 energetic kids from the Ghandi Memorial FC on a dirt pitch with six footballs was a new experience to say the least followed by amazing food! And then being honoured as

the guests at a youth friendly football tournament where, much to our surprise, the PE teachers and coaches here had organised our photo to be on the billboard at the ground – as well as the role of coaching a team! Words can’t describe the experience this far, the eye-opening scenes and kindness of the people here. And thanks to Beaconhurst for the gifts – the children loved them.” Liam took a Beaconhurst hooded top with him to wear during the three-week football camp. He also took along stationery sets for 40 children to use in the classroom which included a Beaconhurst pencil, pen, rubber and notebook.
