Cops drop probe into racist tweets
A police investigation into alleged racist tweets from a Stirling councillor has been dropped.
Police have confirmed that no further action will be taken over the tweets from recently- elected Councillor Robert Davies.
A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Enquiries have now concluded and no further police action will be taken.”
Councillor Davies was suspended from the Conservative Party after the offensive social media posts from 2013 came to light following his election to the council last month.
He is still listed as an Independent councillor on the Stirling Council web page as he still remains suspended from the Stirling Conservative Party.
A Stirling Conservative spokesman said: “Councillor Davies remains suspended pending a decision.”
The Forth and Endrick councillor was accused of allegedly sending several posts of a racist nature.
He is believed to have made posts featuring black people and spears.
One of the posts contained an old photograph of black people waiting next to a cargo plane with the caption: ‘In the interests of security keep your loin cloths with you at all times. Spears go in the overhead locker.’
A second tweet shows a crowd of black people with the caption: ‘No, I am not your lunch. I am your flight attendant.’
Another stated: ‘It’s going to be sodding difficult getting this lot into those tiny plastic meal trays.’
Last week the Observer reported how one Strathblane resident accused Councillor Davies of canvassing on behalf of the Conservatives just days before the General Election despite his suspension.
