Second place win for men at Central

Victory in Scottish Division One

David Lindsay was fourth in the A 400m hurdles while Dale Colley picked up points in the B race and Dale followed this up with victory in the A 800m in 1.56.54 while Matthew Sutherland was second in the B race in 2.01.26.

John MacLennan was back in action, finishing fifth in a high quality 100m and new recruit Neng Wildman was fourth in the B event. Michael Wright ran in the worst of the rain for second in the A 3000m steeplecha­se while David Lindsay pikced up valuable points, also finishing second.

Decathlete Tom Chandler suffered more than most in the difficult conditions but picked up a personal best of 16.00secs in third place in the 110metres hurdles. Kai Ligertwood provided the necessary back-up in this event in second B place.

Neng Wildman had another strong run in the 400metes, finishing sixth A in a quality field while Fraser MacPherson was sixth in the B event. Dale Colley continued his busy day to finish a close-up second in the A 1500metres while David Lindsay clocked a PB of 4.41.77 in seventh B placing.

The 200metres series saw Peter Muirhead in fifth A backed by student Steven Illand in fourth B. The 5000metres saw orienteer Chris Smithard pick-up maximum points with 15.34.30 in his first track race while Michael Wright again pushed on for maximum B points with 16.01.79.

In the field the throwing duties were covered by Gary Sweeney, Tom Chandler and Graham Porterfiel­d. Tom recorded 45.79m in the javelin (third A) and 31.93m in the discus (first B) and Gary weighed in with a win in the shot putt with 12.86m backed-up with second A in the discus with 36.06m and second B in the hammer (23.39m). Graham also produced some fine throws gaining maximum B points in the shot putt (11.28m), third A in the hammer (37.48m) and third B in the javelin (34.54m).

The heavy rain and blustery wind made the pole vault a true trial of character and Tom Chandler achieved a fourth equal height of 3.60m while Ron Todd again managed excellent second B points with a best clearance of 3.15m.

High jumping also saw Under 20 Cameron McCorgray achieving 1.85m for fourth A backed-up by Under 17 James Isgrove with 1.60m for third B.

Peter Muirhead recorded a best of 6.74m in the long jump for a third A while Neng Wildman filled in for fourth B spot (5.40m), James Isgrove produced a PB of 12.30m for third A in the triple jump with Peter Muirhead ensuring second B points with 11.57m.

The 4x100metre­s quartet of Peter Muirhead, Jack Houghton, Steven Illand and John MacLelland had a storming run to record 45.56secs in third spot and the 4 x 400metres quartet of Fraser MacPherson, James Isgrove, Dale Colley and Jack Houghton came home fifth, recording a tasty 3min 46.25secs.

Peter Muirehad and Kieran Halliday - making his season’s debut - ran in the guest 100metres.

Points on the day were Aberdeen 389; Central 368; Kilbarchan 317; Victoria Park Glasgow 313; Inverness 218; Lasswade 170 and Pitreavie 181. Overall League points are now Aberdeen 16; Central 13; Inverness 11; Victoria Park Glasgow 10; Kilbarchan 8; Pitreavie 6; Lasswade 4 and Arbroath 3.
