County just fall short of victory

Defeated at Weirs

- Donald Morton

Paul Bielby took five for 14 for Stirling County at Weirs on Saturday but it wasn’t enough to secure a win for the New Williamfield side.

The home team had chosen to bat first and found runs hard to come by in the latest Western Union First Division match.

But the Albert Park outfit didn’t have to try hard with County’s bowlers firing down an incredible 45 wides giving Weirs and extra seven overs to bat.

They were finally dismissed for 186 with Chaudhry scoring 36 - second top score behind wides. Bielby’s five wickets and Rukman Hewage’s three for 33 wre the highlights of County’s bowling.

In response, Graeme Taylor and Matthew Tweedie made a positive start for County but when they were out for 32 and 39 respectively, the rest of the batting struggled.

And when the last man was out in the final over, County were still 17 runs short.

At the halfway stage of the season, Stirling sit in second behind West of Scotland and on Saturday they are at home to Drumpellier.

Ian was joined by Ross MacGarvie, making his half0-century before being out for 57.

MacGarvie then began to hit the ball to all parts of the ground, raching his maiden century in partnerhsip with Nick Gray as Stirling won with overs to spare. MacGarvie was not out 102 and Gray not out 31.
