Ladies battle it out for the championship title

-

The 2017 Ladies Championship final was contested between Alison Davidson and Elaine Allison.

Alison got off to a flying start with birdies to win the first and second holes and par figures at the third and fourth were sufficient for her to take a four-hole lead.

Elaine fought back to take the fifth but Alison once again regained her lead with a birdie at the seventh hole and would go five-up with a par at the eighth.

Elaine won the ninth and then had a two at the 10th and a par at the 12th cut Alison’s lead to two-up.

Birdies at 13 and 14 saw Alison move to dormie four and a half on the 15th gave the former Curits Cup player her 10th title. As always, the final was played in great spirit.

The Ladies’Handicap Championship finalists were Carolyn Edward (Hcp 29) and Lorna Donaldson (Hcp 21) with Carolyn taking the title after a keenly contested match.

After a friendly half at the first Carolyn went ahead with a good par at the second and after five holes was two up.

Lorna won the next two holes to square the match and with some nice golf being played by both players, it was Carolyn who had the advantage at the turn. Lorna fought back and won the 10th but two good pars by Carolyn at 13 and 14 put her ahead again.

After an eventful 15th hole, Carolyn went three-up and a half at 16 meant Carolyn became the 2017 Ladies’ Handicap Champion. Congratulations to both players on a well-played final.

Frances Oxburgh won the Bronze Championship which has reverted to the best Bronze scratch score over both qualifying rounds.
