Paintball duo injured hill walker

- Robert Fairnie

Police are continuing to hunt for a duo who went on a shooting spree with a paintball gun.

A man suffered a facial injury after being shot at while walking on the West Highland Way, near Drymen, at around 4pm last Friday. Those responsible were driving a black Audi A4 at the time.

The Observer reported on Wednesday that he was left badly shaken by the incident and required medical attention to an ear injury. Officers are treating this as a serious assault.

The incident was one of 16 of this nature reported to officers on Friday – with people also being targeted by the thugs in the Glasgow and West Dunbartonshire areas.

Several members of the public required hospital treatment for minor injuries.

The Audi vehicle, which detectives believe to be the car involved, was found on fire in the Croftamie area at around 7pm on Friday night.

The men believed to be responsible are both described as white and aged between 20 and 30. One of them had a shaved head.

Detective Inspector Mark McLennan said extensive enquiries are underway in a bid to track down those responsible.

He said: “The behaviour of these two men was absolutely shocking and they showed complete and utter disregard for the safety of the innocent people they targeted, some of whom sustained painful injuries.

“Police Scotland will not tolerate this type of reckless conduct and extensive enquiries are underway to trace the callous individuals responsible.

“Officers are currently examining CCTV footage, conducting door to door enquiries and there will also be a forensic examination of the car that was recovered.”

Anyone who witnessed any of these attacks, thinks they saw the vehicle or has any other information should contact Drumchapel CID on 101 and quote incident number 1946 of Friday June 23 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
