previous years it was agreed at the last AGM that the Robert Chapman Greensomes Trophies would be played for at Balfron Golf Club on the afternoon of Wednesday, June 21 at 2pm in a Stableford format. There were 16 members taking part on a windy and cloudy day which threatened thunderstorms. The first two groups managed to finish dry but the next two were caught in the heavy rain on the last two holes. That didn’t deter the result any, as the winners and runners up came from those groups. Most of the participants returned to the Cross Keys for the evening meal. The results were as follows: Winners, Bill Aitchison and Carl Olivarius, 43 points; runners up, Ian Leith and John Anderson, 42 points. Tennis The two week Summer School programme commences on Monday. Bowling In Monday evening’s rink game, points were gained by Doris Sinclair, John Anderson, Donald Smith, Andy Mayhew, George Cooper, Willie McLaren, Sandra Boyd, Maureen MacColl and George Goodall. Last Sunday saw the first game for the Duncan McNaughton Memorial Shield, gifted by his employer James D Bilsland. It was a mixed triples event with an excellent entry of 18 teams, all competing hard to be the first names on the trophy. At the end of the day the winners were Eileen Mayhew, Robert Pender and Alan Patrick (Kippen/Twechar BC). Runners up were Sandra Boyd, Bill Boyd and Willie McLaren (Kippen BC). The McNaughton Trophies, two ball singles, competition takes place on Wednesday, July 5 at 6.30pm. School This year’s P7 pupils chose the media of film to record their happy schooldays at Kippen following through to what they might be doing in 2028. Watching with interest and amusement were parents, guests, staff and pupils. Wishing them well in their move to high school, headteacher Mrs Logan thanked Miss Alexander and her pupils for splendid entertainment before asking Mrs Rhona Marshall to present this year’s awards. Senior Citizenship Trophy (Nicola Furay Memorial) Chloe Watt; Junior Citizenship Trophy (Ross Marshall Memorial) Holly Fielden; Connolly Cup for Sports Achievement, Thomas Reilly, who again excelled in sportsmanship and fair play. Murray Robb received a highly commended certificate for sportsmanship, particularly kayaking, and certificates also went to Caitlin Bradwell and Erin Struthers. Good wishes and a lovely book of class photographs and events were gifted by the Parents Association to each leaver, before refreshments were enjoyed. Purchase of the well presented Kippen Kids Community Cookbook has been brisk (price £5). Kippen Heritage now has copies available.
