Pupils in global shoe mission

Dunblane kids put heart and sole into collection

- Katie Williams

Children at Dunblane Primary School are donating their outgrown shoes to charity.

Teaming up with organisation ‘Sal’s Shoes’, shoes will be given to young people across the globe who do not have the simple privilege of owning footwear.

More than three million children in the world are at risk of catching infections and not able to go to school due to having to walk miles barefoot.

Stirling Council’s education committee convener Councillor Susan McGill said,“Donating to Sal’s Shoes promotes a deeper level of understanding amongst the children. It’s wonderful that shoes worn by youngsters here will get a second lease of life elsewhere, in places they are much needed.”

The children of Dunblane Primary are going barefoot for a few moments to show solidarity with those around the world who have no other choice but to do so every day. Sal’s Shoes has been running for three and a half years and just under 200,000 pairs of shoes have been collected.

Boxes have been given by UCP while Malcolm Logistics have generously agreed to support this mission and carry the shoes on the first leg of their journey.

Depute head teacher Shirley Gallivan said:“We are extremely grateful to WH Malcolm for offering to drive the shoes, a without their support we would not have been able to participate.”
