Traffic restrictions as up to 8000 head for Orange Walk

- Gareth Jones

Orange Order processions are set to cause traffic disruption in Forth Valley on Saturday.

Up to 8000 band members will head to Alloa for the annual Central Scotland Orange Walk.

And smaller processions will also be held around Stirling at various points throughout the day.

The Loyal Orange Lodge will host a march in Stirling city centre between 9am and 9.30am. There will be rolling road closures, with warnings of slight delays to traffic, as the procession makes its way along Kings Park Road, Port Street and Viewfield Place.

Saturday morning walks will also be held by the Bannockburn Orange & Public District in Bannockburn and the Charles Mcneil Memorial Public Procession in Fallin.

The Jones and McGowan Memorial Lodge will march in Plean between 4.30pm and 5.30pm.

A Stirling Council spokesperson said: “We are working with Police Scotland and the event organisers to ensure that any potential disruption that may arise from traffic restrictions is minimised and that adequate arrangements are in place with regards to public safety.”

A list of traffic restrictions for Saturday can be found on the Stirling Council website at my.stirling.gov. uk/roadworks

The event in Alloa will be taking place from 1pm up until 5pm, with a range of restrictions in place. There will be traffic restrictions across the town for much of the day, however Clackmannanshire Council has insisted that the town centre is still open,

A spokesperson said: “The council will be issuing information and advice to local residents and businesses.

“We are working with event organisers and the police to put arrangements in place in respect of public safety and to assist with minimising disruption.

“Alloa town centre will still be accessible.”
