Cllr Susan McGill

However the Stirling MP said that he supports a review for public sector pay.

Mr Kerr dismissed Councillor McGill’s comments as nonsense and added: “The only issue that should be ‘slammed’, as Councillor McGill so eloquently puts it, is her desperation to concoct a press release around an MP supporting their own Government’s Queens Speech.

“I, along with many others from all parties, support the established process for reviewing Public Sector Pay. This independent process should be respected and recommendations brought forward for consideration as usual. Using the Queen’s Speech as an opportunity to score a few political points is a well-established practice but given how vital it was for the UK to ensure the vote was won it was unsurprising I voted to support it.”

Mr Kerr also highlighted that the Scottish Government had the power to raise wages for workers north of the Border.

He said: “The Scottish Government hold the

Public sector workers in Stirling were sold a raw deal when they were asked to vote Tory

powers to raise revenues to pay for public sector pay rises in Scotland if they want to but , as usual, prefer to do nothing and blame Westminster. Last month Councillor McGill’s own SNP Government at Holyrood voted against lifting the nursing pay cap in Scotland but the SNP MPs supported scrapping it for the rest of the UK . Typically the SNP choose to avoid responsibility because it’s always someone else’s fault.”
