Angry row in city bar chill-out

Attacked with jug

- Court reporter

A woman hit another reveller with a cocktail jug after a row broke out in the chill-out area of a bar.

Taylor Dobson used a plastic jug to cause a head injury in the attack at the Cape Bar in Stirling on March 12.

The 25-year-old, of Crosbie Court, Stirling, appeared at the city’s sheriff court last weekfor sentencing.

She had admitted assaulting Cameron Malcolm at the pub and behaving in a threatening and abusive manner in Friars Street.

Fiscal depute Laura Knox told the court that two groups had been sitting opposite each other in the chill-out area of the bar at around 6pm.

“After a short time an argument was instigated between the two groups and the bar manager became aware of the argument,” she said.

“He spoke to both parties and asked them to calm down.”

The argument resumed a few minutes later and Dobson and two of her friends were asked to leave.

Mrs Knox continued: “A verbal argument seemed to continue as they were asked to leave.

“The accused picked up a cocktail jug and struck Cameron Malcolm on the forehead.”

A melee then ensued and police were called. When approached by officers Dobson became hostile and aggressive, making a homophobic remark towards an officer.

Defending, Alastair Ross said that his client had shown embarrassment, shame and remorse at her behaviour.

Sheriff Wyllie Robertson sentenced Dobson to 150 hours of unpaid work, to be completed within six months.

He said: “Although it is narrated as a plastic jug, it was obviously considerable enough to result in a cut which required to be glued.

“To do that in a bar is very serious, not only in terms of injury but also in terms of what could happen in a resulting disturbance.”
