Clackmannanshire Council is examining the role of community councils.

The authority has just begun a consultation asking residents how they think places and vacancies on community councils should be filled. This is the second stage of the study, which previously asked for views on community council boundaries and membership numbers.

The council has said it wants to hear from residents who are not community councillors, but will also work closely with the nine existing community councils to ensure there is an informed response.

Provost Tina Murphy said: “Clackmannanshire Council supports lifelong, active citizenship, and we are keen to see more participation in community councils.

“We hope through this consultation people will consider what we’re proposing regarding community council elections as a way to encourage active involvement.

“We still hope to hear ideas about getting more people to participate generally in their local community matters, and residents have a chance to comment on those issues through this consultation.”

Residents can submit their thoughts using an online questionnaire which can be found on ClacksWeb under ‘Community Councils Scheme’ in the consultation database.

For further information on how to take part, ring 01259 450000 and ask for the community council liaison officer. The consultation opened on Monday (July 3) and runs until September 8.
