Rundown of returns from the local clubs

Peter McGuigan won the Queen Victoria Jubilee Trophy and qualified for the Medal Finals in September in winning Class 2.

In the event for members aged 55 and over as of November 1, 2016, Peter shot a net 66, returning 11 pars, five bogeys and a double bogey at the 7th in nines of 41 and 39.

Barry Bell took second place in Class 2 beating Michael Beyer on the better inward half (BIH) - both players on net 69.

Kevin Cunningham won Class 3 and a place in the Medal Finals with a tremendous net 65 and could even have been better with three double bogeys and a treble bogey. Mark Kennedy was second on net 68 amd Gary Bolton bookended his round with an opening eight and closing seven but still managed a net 70 to take third place.

Craig Wilkie returned a season’s best one under par 71 to win Class 1. An eagle at the second was balanced with a pair of sixes for an outward 38. A hat trick of birdies at 12, 17 and 18 contribute­d to an excellent three under par 33.

Chris Goode was second and new club champion Liam Haldane scored the best scratch score of the weekend with a two under 70 for third.

This weekend players will compete for the Presidents Cup.

Stirling Seniors Stirling Gents played their latest match in the 2017 Central and Lothians Seniors League on Monday at home against local rivals Dunblane New.

The match was played in excellent conditions with both the weather and the course being first class. On the day, Stirling played very well overall and won by 5-1.

Match results were: Ian Malcolm and Duncan McCallum won 2 up; Andrew Aitken and Alex Hogg won 6&5; Derek Gavin and Frank Gordon won 6&5; George Clelland and Colin Peebles halved match; John Cattigan and Ian Cockshoot won 5&4; Mike Fabisiak and Bill Morrice halved match. Muckhart Twenty-six teams from across Central Scotland took part in the Ladies Open Tri-am held at Muckhart GC on Sunday and results were as follows (Muckhart unless stated):

On Sunday there was full field with players from around 50 clubs throughout Scotland in the Kippendavi­e Cup (Scratch and Handicap Open) with the CSS up one to 70 for home players but 72 and reduction only for visitors.

Winner of the trophy was Robert Weir (15) from Dunblane New on 66 despite a double bogey at 18 spoiling the card. Scratch honours went to one of the first out at 7.30am, Michael Wilson (Kingsfield) with a level par 69 with birdies at 6, 14, 16 and 17, double bogey at 8 and bogeys at 9 and 10. Runner-up on 74 was Hugh Fraser (Niddry Castle) with Michael Bunting (Binny) third on 75 and BIH than Stuart Birrell (Leven Thistle).

First Class went to Willie Sutherland (12) from Mortonhall on 68 and BIH, including birdies at 11 and 18, than Douglas Thomson (7) from Vale of Leven. Dermot Campbell (6) from Dunblane New followed up recent success with third place on 69.

Second Class was dominated by Dunblane New members with Gary Aitken (18) winning on 69 and BIH than Joe Malley (13). John Newton (13) from Falkirk was third on 70.

The Monthly Medal and Senior Championsh­ip Qualifying drew a strong field on Friday and Saturday. The CSS rose to 70 on Saturday but was 72R/O on Friday.

Best scratch score for the second week in a row was Vinny O’Holloran with a 73 highlighte­d by a birdie at the last which edged out Neil Panton on BIH after Neil double bogeyed 16.

Three players returned 67 (-3) in First Class but the honours went to Ian Campbell (10) with BIH including a birdie at 15. Runner up was Ian Christie (6) who played on Friday and with a birdie at 18 had BIH than Terry Kettlewell (8). Fourth place went to Neil Panton (5) on 68 (-2) and BIH than Peter Bell (11).

There were again three players with the same score - 67 (-3) - in the Second Class but first spot went to Andy Orr (14) with BIH including a birdie three at 15. Runner up was George Scott (16) with BL6 than Brian Abel (15). Fourth place went to Robert Weir (15) on 69 (-1) and BIH than Cliff Gordon (12) and Hugh MacLennan (12).

Third Class was won by Martin Bell (19) on 68 (-2) which included back to back birdies at 5 and 6. Runner up was Andrew Thomson (21) on 70 (0) with Drummond Gardner (19) third on 71 (+1) and Alastair Pringle (25) fourth on 72 (+2) and BIH than Rod Matheson (20).

The top eight scratch scores on 80 and better qualified for the matchplay stages of the Seniors Scratch Championsh­ip with the top 16 players with scores of 72 (+2) and BL6 proceeding to the matchplay stages of the Seniors Handicap Championsh­ip. The draws for both competitio­ns are on the noticeboar­d and players are asked to organise their ties as soon as possible.

The July Midweek Medal will be played today (Wednesday) and this weekend will be the Summer Meeting when hopefully there may be some summer weather.
