Dashcams could nail paintball gunmen

- Gareth Jones

Police think drivers with dashcams may be able to help trace a duo who went on a shooting spree with a paintball gun.

A man who was walking on the West Highland Way, near Drymen, received a facial injury when he was shot at by two men driving a black Audi A4 at around 4pm on Friday, June 23.

He was left badly shaken by the incident and required medical attention to an ear injury.

The incident was one of 16 reported to police, with people also being targeted by the thugs in the Glasgow and West Dunbartonshire areas.

Several members of the public required hospital treatment for minor injuries.

An Audi which detectives believe to be the car involved was found on fire in the Croftamie area at around 7pm the same day.

The men believed to be responsible are both described as white and aged between 20 and 30. One of them had a shaved head.

Detective Sergeant Raymond Sagan said officers want contact drivers who may have been in the area at the time of the incidents.

“So far, unfortunately, these men have still not been traced,” he said.

“They might have thought it a bit of fun but we definitely don’t and it was only luck that stopped someone from being very seriously injured.

“We are currently checking the route of the car via CCTV but are keen to get any dash or helmet cam footage from motorists and cyclists who were in the areas mentioned that day.

“The car is first seen at 1.30pm in Greendyke Street, near to Glasgow Green, after which it is believed to have travelled westbound along the Broomielaw then Clydeside Expressway, exiting on to Dumbarton Road at Whiteinch near to the Clyde Tunnel.

“Around 1.45pm the Audi travelled west along Dumbarton Road between Whiteinch Medical Practice and Verona Avenue, before continuing through Knightswood and Clydebank and into the Bearsden area.”

He ased anyone with information to contact police on 101.
