Baton set for Stirling return
The Commonwealth Games roadshow is returning to Stirling later this summer.
The symbol of the competition – the Queen’s Baton – will make its way through Stirling on August 24 and 25.
The baton is on a tour of Commonwealth countries ahead of next year’s games in the Gold Coast, Australia.
The relay took place around Scotland ahead of Glasgow 2014, with crowds lining the street across the Stirling area to see the baton carried by local heroes.
Paul Bush OBE, chair of Commonwealth Games Scotland said:“The Queen’s Baton Relay is an iconic symbol of the Commonwealth Games and we look forward to welcoming the baton to Scotland next month.
“We have had tremendous enthusiasm and support from local authorities, schools and community groups across the country, helping to organise an exciting programme of events which will use the QBR to connect their communities with the games and embrace the values of the Commonwealth movement as a whole.
“The public support Team Scotland enjoyed for Glasgow 2014 was phenomenal and I look forward to seeing that passion sparked once again, as the baton’s journey through Scotland marks the final countdown to the 2018 Commonwealth Games.”
This year’s event will see a reception held for Team Scotland and Bahamas 2017 Youth Games athletes at Stirling Castle on the evening of August 24.
The following day, the baton will visit St Ninians Primary School, with carriers joining in on the Daily Mile, and will head to the Stirling University Campus via the Kelpies in Falkirk.
Further details of the exact route of the baton will be released in the coming weeks, with the relay set to cause minor disruption on the roads.
