Hills are alive with runners

Peebles runner Jacob Adkin was the winner of this year’s Ben Ledi Ascent.
Organised by not-for-profit outdoor sports company Skidaddle, the Callander has grown in stature over the years to become a popular event.
The 9km race starts with a gentle incline on forest tracks and then turns on to the main footpath over Ben Ledi which becomes less and less gentle in its nature.
The path soon joins the shoulder of the mountain which is known for its frustrating false summits and the summit itself is marked with a trig point.
Runners’ descent advances along the rounded ridge down towards the beallach where they turn east down Stank Glen to join the forest track back to the finish line.
The sun shone brightly on the morning of the race but as the day progressed the cloud came down limiting visibility towards the end of the race.
Jacob’s winning time was a remarkable 50.05mins.
Maz Wyllie from Skidaddle said: “Huge congratulations to all who took part and many thanks to the totally brilliant team of marshals and to all who supported this event including Strathyre Forest Holidays, Callander Meadows restaurant and Nature’s Corner.
“We look forward to our next event the Breathing Space Callander 10k on October 7.” Interested runner can book online at www.skidaddle.org.
