Youngsters just miss out

Young Callander Golf Club trio Alastair Cantlay, Jack Steadman and Blair Frail were runners-up in the Junior Scottish Open at Troon Lochgreen on Tuesday.

The trio had qualified for the final after winning the regional qualifier at Callander on June 25 by seven shots.

Alastair, Jack and Blair shot a net 50 to beat the Ballumbie team of Reuben Vanderesch, Marcus Vanderesch and Ross Alexanders (net 57 bih) and the Bathgate trio Josh Beveridge, James Wood and Natalie Fowler (net 57).

Callander juniors Campbell Gillon, Aiden Breslin and Liam Breslin were fourth.

●Callander juniors held their fourth annual summer camp last week with 32 attending from Dalmally, Stirling, Dunblane, Doune, Bearsden and the Mediterran­ean island of Majorca along with Callander youngsters.

●This year’s second session of ClubGolf lessons will start in the week beginning Monday, August 28 and will run for six weeks. This will be the eighth session run by Callander GC.

The sessions will be held on Mondays and Thursdays from 6-7.30pm. To enable the club to have sufficient coaches and helpers available, children should be enrolled at the club on Sunday, August 20 from 2-4pm with an opportunit­y to use the practice facilities (free of charge).

If this date is not suitable please ensure enrolment is prior to the starting date of Monday, August 28. The cost will be £10.00 for members and £25.00 for non-members.
