Pair host Pink Party to raise cancer cash

- Chris Marzella

Two women from Dollar are set to raise £10,000 for a cancer charity.

Kirsty Nelson and Joanna Taylor have organised a‘Pink Party’to be held at Burnside Hall on August 5 which looks set to raise £10,000 for Breast Cancer Now.

The duo have arranged the event in honour of their friend Sarah Murray, 42, from Melrose, who was diagnosed with breast cancer last year. Sarah had a double mastectomy and has recovered well.

Guests attending the Pink Party will enjoy a live band and a three-course dinner, followed by the chance to bid for a host of fantastic auction prizes including a lesson at Gleneagles Shooting School with ex-European Champion Jim Newbigging, and a special Formula 1 prize which includes a cap signed by Nico Rosberg.

All funds raised from the event will go directly to Breast Cancer Now. Kirsty said: “When Sarah was diagnosed with breast cancer, it came as a huge shock to all of us. Thankfully she has recovered from treatment and is back to feeling fit and healthy again but the last year has been incredibly hard.

“I want to help support Sarah’s fundraising efforts for a very worthy charity. Sarah and five others are taking on their very own special Three Peaks Challenge, not only are they climbing Snowdon, Scafell Pike and Ben Nevis, but they are cycling the distance between each mountain too. The Pink Party in Dollar will be the final celebration of all her brilliant fundraising efforts and we hope to raise £10,000 from the event to add to her total.

“The Pink Party is a lovely opportunity for local people to come together and enjoy a great evening of entertainment while raising lots of money to help fund life-saving breast cancer research.”
