Youngsters’ sports talents PEAK

- Donald Morton

Active Stirling’s Active kids holiday programmes have proved so popular that young people who attended the PEAK camps as participants have come back as volunteers.

The programmes are a great way to keep children entertained over the school holidays and a variety of activities take place from Monday-Friday 8.30am5pm for seven weeks as well as the popular PEAK camps where children can stay for half or full days.

Activities included are athletics, badminton, dance, football, gymnastics, ice skating, outdoor kayaking, gorge walking, climbing, biking, bouncing and jumping beans, rugby, swimming and tennis.

It also provides an excellent training ground for coaches and volunteers to learn the trade and this summer three of them - Ellen Curry, Amanda Hiddleston and Danielle McCallum - are volunteering having attended the camps as youngsters.

Coaching manager Mark Findlay said:“Seeing them coming into our holiday programme as young volunteers is great and shows the impact sport can have in people’s lives.

“A massive amount of credit has to go to the Active Stirling coaching workforce and their commitment and dedication to provide a high quality, fun, safe and engaging environment.

“And a special mention has to go to Grace Roberts and Natalie Wilson who are both now coach and volunteer co-ordinators for Active Stirling but who also started as volunteers; they have been excellent role models for children and young people over the years.”
