Gypsy swing to doo-wop - fest will have it all!

-

A new music festival is coming to Stirling.

The Sruighlea Sessions will be held at Stirling Sports Village on Saturday August 19.

The event is part of the Stirling Highland Games and will take place in a large marquee, which will host the Stirling Foodie Fest earlier in the day.

Top of the Town boys Railfan will headline the event. The Americana band has developed a following across Europe, having taken part in several successful tours of the Continent in recent years.

The band has an expansive approach to making music; you will hear serious funk, swinging jazz, grizzly blues riffs, earthy, soulful tones alongside a hearty dose of Americana.

The Strange Blue Dreams are also set to appear. They will showcase dramatic pop, gypsy swing, skiffle, doo-wop and ballads from the music hall to the jet-age.

The Wayne Devro Set make up the line-up. Award-nominated composer Brian Docherty will perform a folktronica, electrofolk set. He has previously worked with names such as Belle & Sebastian, King Creosote and Shirley Manson.

Organiser Matt McGrandles said the event is being hosted to create a new aspect to the Highland Games, and to road test holding a music festival ahead of the Games’ 150th anniversary in 2020.

“We wanted to do something a bit different,” he said. “We want to walk before we can run, and are only looking to sell 300 tickets.

“We have tried to keep the event as local as possible, but have managed to sign up some great bands. There is a real folky, bluesy, American style to them and I think that fits in with what we want to do.”

Harviestoun, Fallen , McQueen Craft Gin and Fizzbuz Prosecco will all host bars at the event and Clive Ramsay Catering will provide the food.
