Doubt over future of city Oxfam shop

-

Oxfam yesterday (Tuesday) confirmed that the future of their long-established book and record shop in Stirling’s Murray Place is under review.

Discussions are underway between charity bosses and staff and volunteers at the shop.

A spokesperson said no final decision on the shop’s future had been made and added: “We’re constantly evaluating the profitability of all our shops to ensure we’re efficient and making the most money for Oxfam’s vital work.

“Sometimes this leads to difficult decisions about the viability of particular shops and unfortunately there are occasions where a decision is made to close a shop but this is never taken lightly.

“We always take into account the impact that such closures have on our staff and volunteers and the value that Oxfam shops have in the community.

“As part of this process we’re currently reviewing the future of our Stirling branch with the staff and volunteer team in the shop.”

She said the shop was still open and continued: “We would encourage people in Stirling to continue supporting the shop as they have done so generously over the years.”

“Oxfam has 636 shops across the UK and a popular online shop which together bring in over £21 million every year to help the organisation fight extreme poverty and inequality.”
