Blair Drummond Safari Park is home to what may be the oldest chimp in Europe.

It is estimated that over 400,000 people each season visit Blair Drummond Safari Park and one of the most popular attractions is the boat ride around Chimp Island.

More than half of all visitors make sure to fit in the trip during their visit.

Safari Park marketing manager Liz Gunn said:“Blair Drummond Safari Park has a group of five western chimps: Blossom (the matriarch), Chippy (her son), Jill, Rosie and Copper.

“There is a possibility that Blossom could be the oldest chimp in Europe – she is believed to be between 61 and 65 years old. Chimps are human’s closest relatives and share 98.8 per cent of our DNA.

“The chimps are one of the cleverest animals at the park and their keepers are constantly finding new forms of enrichment to keep them stimulated. A favourite activity is the Puzzle Feeder, which requires the chimps to use tools and solve problems to get the food out of specially constructed puzzles. This stimulates the natural foraging behaviour of chimpanzees, who take great satisfaction in enjoying the contents of the puzzle feeders once they have it all worked out.”

The Stirling Observer has teamed up with Blair Drummond Safari Park again this season to offer the chance of winning a family pass every week.
