The production company responsible for the upcoming Outlaw King movie are planning to shoot scenes in the Stirling area.

Loudoun Productions Ltd have applying for permission to set up at Mugdock Country Park for a period of ten weeks starting next month.

Directed by David Mackenzie and starring Star Trek star Chris Pine, Outlaw King will tell the story of Robert the Bruce and is expected to be released on to Netflix late next year.

The firm plan to create a film set at two locations within the park, which is south east of Strathblane.

They plan to work there from September 11 to November 17.

In their proposal they have included the erection of temporary stables to shelter 50 horses during ‘battlefield’ film sequences, while they also want to construct timber huts and create ditches and earth mounds.

The company are asking Stirling Council for the goahead to put up a number temporary buildings and structures to be used for filming purposes, along with associated access parking and storage.

Planners are expected to make a recommendation in due course.

Their work will include site preparation, rehearsals, filming and a removal period and they were also keen to highlight the potential boost such a project could bring to the local economy – with spend on staffing, hotels, transport, cleaning, security and catering.

Loudoun Productions say they have given Scottish National Heritage assurances that there will be no impact on protected species or landscape.

A promotional poster says Outlaw King will tell a ‘true David v Goliath story of how the great 14th Century Outlaw King Robert the Bruce used cunning and bravery to defeat and repel the much larger and better equipped occupying English army.

It was reported last month that a casting agency was appealing for bearded Scots to come forward for a chance to star as an extra in the movie blockbuster.
