Pots of fun

- Chris Marzella

Gargunnock is awash with colour as it builds up to one of its big events of the summer.

Gargunnock Flower Show takes place on Saturday, August 26 from 1.45pm in the village’s community centre and it’s set to be another top display of fruit and veg, flowers, floral art and baking.

The streets of Gargunnock are already a kaleidoscope of colour, with 45 decorated pots on show.

After the success of the last two years ‘Potorama’ returns in 2017.

New and innovative designs are now placed in prominent positions around the village centre and have brightened things up.

Prizes were awarded to the individual and group entries after the difficult task of judging the very varied and unusual pots.

The group first prize went to ‘The Three Wise Monkeys’ – comprising Sunday Club members Jimmy Ferguson, Maitland Clark, Trevor Boyd and Angus Harris.

Special mentions have to go to: ‘Hetty and Henry’, Karen and Kate McAllister; ‘Moon and Stars, Helen Rowell, and ‘Trio of Pots,’ Gargunnock Primary School.

The individual first prize went to ‘The Scarecrow’ by Kathleen Sinclair.

Special mentions also go to ‘Butterflies’ by the After School Group and ‘Are We There Yet?’ by Douglas Coupethwaite.

Garden competition judging took place on the same day and winner of the flower category was Alastair Jackson, with Liz Wilkinson and Karen McDougall as runners up.

The winner of the vegetable category was Nicol McNicoll and Aileen Clarke and Duncan Petrie finished runners up.

Janet Iffla scooped top prize in the layout category with David King and Liz Patterson finishing second and third.

Bill Nicol finished first in the flowers and vegetables category with Liz Patterson runner-up.
