Thursday, July 27 Caley Marts sold 146 cattle comprising 101 prime bullocks, heifers and young bulls, 45 cast cows and 20 young calves. Prime bullocks and heifers a more mixed show once again would be dearer throughout quality handy weights exceptionaly short of requirements. Bullocks sold to 250p pkg for a Limousin from J and J Wyllie, Knockhouse, Dunfermline purchased by T Johnston, Butcher, Cow Wynd, Falkirk and to an astonishing £1722 from C Smith, South Flanders, Kippen. Heifers sold to 248p pkg (twice) for Limousins from JH and NT Turnbull, Meadowend, Clackmannan and W Pettigrew, Faskine, Airdrie to D Campbell and Son, Butcher, Ancaster Square, Callander and WW Wales Ltd, Butcher, Kilmarnock and to a whopping £1616 for a Charolais from Harold Greer, Gelvan View, Kinross. Young bulls sold to 220p pkg for a Limousin from T and T Robertson, Creochill, Mauchline to Charles Kirkpatrick and to a massive £1760 from M Lyle, Mid Cambushinnie, Dunblane. Black and white bulls sold to 182p pkg from D Pickard, Straiton, St Andrews and to £1117 for the same animal. Tuesday, August 1 Caley Marts sold 1957 prime lambs, ewes and tups. Prime lambs (1373) averaged 195.6p pkg (+18.3p pkg on the week) (+9.7p on the year). All classes of lambs especially 42 kilo plus were sharer on the week. Top price of the day went to G Whyte, Pett, Muthill for a 50 kilo Beltex X lamb at £111. Top price per kilo went to Doune Farms, West Lundie at 232ppkg for a pair of Beltex lambs at 47 kilos.
