Help Calm Doon go up in the world

Bannockbur­n-based ceilidh rock band Calm Doon are one step closer to winning a UKwide talent competitio­n.

And they’re looking for support from their fans to get them there. The lads won the regional final of pub giant Greene King’s Live at Your Local contest which gives them a chance at playing onstage at the O2 Indigo in London in the competitio­n’s UK finals. The band are one of only two Scottish outfits to make it to the penultimat­e stage of the competitio­n and they will now compete against 19 other UK acts for a chance to play at the O2 London.

Lead singer Sean Griffin said: “It’s such an amazing feeling to have won our regional final. We’re a band with roots across central Scotland, so for people to have voted us into the final 19 acts in Britain is just an amazing feeling.

“To be one of only two Scottish bands at this stage of the competitio­n is mind-blowing. We want to go all the way down to London and show them how we do pub entertainm­ent up in Scotland. To do that, we need people to vote for us.”

Greene King’s Live at Your Local competitio­n is searching for the best of local musical talent of all genres to take part in a nationwide pub talent tournament.

Qualifying artists had the chance to perform live at their local participat­ing pub – Stirling’s No. 2 Baker Street for Calm Doon – before heading to first round heats and regional finals.

Calm Doon won their regional final at the Twa Tams in Perth, and now have a chance to seal their place in the last seven.

Now it’s up to the public to get Calm Doon to the final. Voting opens on Saturday, August 5 for five days only vote at www.greeneking.co.uk/music.
