Weather causes issueon roads

- Robert Fairnie

Disruption to motorists travelling on a stretch of the A9 will continue for two extra nights due to poor weather.

A section of the road at Blackford – the B8081 junction – has been hit with temporary lane closures and prohibited right turns overnight all week as £50,000 junction improvements are carried out.

Measures were expected to be in-place between the hours of 7.30pm and 6.30am from Monday to Thursday.

However, due to heavy rain showers operations have been affected with no works taking place on Wednesday evening.

And as a result operations were continued overnight last night (Thursday-into-Friday) and are expected to draw a close at 6.30am Saturday morning.

Diversion routes will be available in the south via Queen Victoria Interchange, north of Dunblane, and at Loaninghead Interchange in the north.

Lane closures and junction restrictions are lifted during the day to minimise disruption.

Andy Thompson, BEAR Scotland’s north east representative, said: “Heavy rain can have a significant impact on road materials during surfacing operations such as this, and although the weather is outwith our control, our teams will continue to do all they can to minimise disruption and complete the works as quickly and safely as possible.

“We thank motorists for their continued patience while the junction improvements are completed.”

Works are being undertaken to resurface the area in the central reservation and upgrade the road markings to improve road safety – and all traffic measures have been put in place for the safety of workers and motorists.
