Living it up at Lemur Land

- Donald Morton

Blair Drummond Safari Park is home to nearly 300 different animals, including four types of lemur: the black and white ruffed lemur, the brown lemur, the red ruffed lemur and the ring-tailed lemur.

Visitors can see these animals up close in Lemur Land, a specially designed enclosure where the creatures are free to roam.

Keeper Fiona Carmichael said:“We have 18 lemurs at Blair Drummond, including nine ring-tailed lemurs.

“Our ring-tailed lemurs have all been bred in captivity but in the wild these beautiful creatures are native to the island of Madagascar and they are critically endangered due to habitat destruction, poaching and hunting.”

“The ring-tailed species is the most recognisable of our lemurs and can be easily identified by its distinctive black and white striped tail.

“Lemurs rely strongly on their sense of smell and they will often use their long tail to carry and waft certain scents through the air when communicating.”

The Stirling Observer has teamed up with Blair Drummond Safari Park again this season to offer the chance of winning a family pass every week.

For a chance to win just answer this question: What colour is the ring-tailed lemur’s tail?
