Concert Peter Christie will play at St Mary’s Episcopal Church on Sunday, August 20, at 3pm in the latest Third Sunday at 3 concert. Dr Christie has been a church organist since the age of 14 and is now at All Saints Scottish Episcopal Church in Bearsden. The hour-long concert features music from Bach, Saint-Saens’ ‘Carnival of the Animals’, Robin Erskine and French fairground music written for the church. Tickets £10 at the door. Trossachs Pilgrimage and Picnic The annual event is on Sunday, August 27, walking, cycling or car sharing. Gardens The Community Council Best Kept Garden Cup goes this year to Martin Trainer, Flat 16, 15 North Church Street. Runner-up was Margaret Rae, 28 Pearl Street and third was Isobel McLeod, 30A Pearl Street. Callander Primary School was highly commended by the judges for its vegetable garden. The community council thanked the horticultu­ral society for arranging the judging. The cup and cerificate­s will be presented at the annual horticultu­ral show on Saturday, August 26. Flower show The annual show for Callander and District Horticultu­ral Society takes place on Saturday, August 26, in the kirk hall. The show is open to the public from 1.30pm with the presentati­on of prizes taking place at 3pm. At the end of the afternoon there is an opportunit­y to buy some of the exhibits. For competitor­s the hall will be open the night before from 7-10pm and again on the show day from 8-9.30am, when judging takes place. Schedules are available locally. \Carron Valley

Open day Heritage and crafts will be the theme of the annual community open day on Saturday, August 26, from noon-4pm at Craigend Farm, Auchenbowi­e. Organised by the Valley Renewables Group, a special focus this year will be the Heritage Lottery Fund’s grant for archaeolog­ical excavation and training centred on Kirk o’ Muir graveyard and John de Graham’s castle. Stalls will include mosaics, willow weaving, spinning, jewellery, local produce, flower arranging. Stirling Cycle Hub and children’s activities, A programme of talks will include companion planting, encouragin­g community involvemen­t in heritage activities, and a presentati­on on plans for the two historic sites. There will also be a discussion of plans for a community woodland at Carron reservoir.
