Disappointing turn-out for annual veterans’ match

-

The annual get-together of the association’s veterans had a disappointing turn-out.

Not only was there a sparse turnout of spectators at Thornhill, but the Forth side was beset with a string of late call-offs and it was scarcely surprising that the Endrick side were quickly into an unassailable position and went on to win 14-4 against Balfron Rovers.

Drymen United knocked in eight goals without any reply from Blanefield Thistle, a result which takes them into second place on goal difference and enhances their prospects of taking the Salmon Leap Trophy for the association’s highest scoring league side.

Two league matches were decided on Tuesday but not on the field. Aberfoyle and Deanston declined to fulfil their fixtures and Drymen and Thornhill were awarded 3-0 wins.

Tuesday also featured the second round of the Cameron Cup and some of the scores might have raised a few eyebrows. Drymen were first through when Aberfoyle, having lost a number of players, withdrew.

Killearn were not too happy about having to travel to Gargunnock in midweek for a cuptie but were possibly a lot happier on the return journey with a 4-2 result in their favour.

Buchlyvie were at home to Kippen and were held to a 3-3 draw which turned into a defeat when their visitors won the penalty shoot-out.

Another tight game was the tie between Gartocharn and Balfron, the match being switched to Donaldson Park as the Gartocharn pitch was unplayable.

There was little between the sides for much of the game and in the end Balfron were happy with a one goal win.
