On a Doune-r after opening day loss

Disappointment result for Stirling amateur side

Eaglesham ................................ 4 Doune Castle ............................ 0

Doune were left stunned by this opening day League Cup defeat after being the better side in the first half.

A spell of suicidal defending at the start of the second half, however, presented the tie to the home side.

In the opening period, Doune created the better chances in the opening period, but failed to score.

On 38 minutes, they were handed the chance to take the lead when Paul Statter was brought down in the box but Alan Inglis drove the spot kick off the face of the right hand post and watched despairingly as it flew wide.

Statter then shot narrowly past at the start of the second half before Eaglesham took the lead after 53 minutes, taking advantage of poor Castle marking and five minutes later they netted from the penalty spot.

Within 60 seconds it was game over as they scored a third and although Andy Innes, Inglis and Statter all came close, the home side held firm.

As the game crept into added time, Kenny Feaks shot narrowly past, before the keeper denied Inglis with a terrific save.

And with the referee looking at his watch, Eaglesham sealed the win in a lightning counter attack which ended with an unstoppable 25-yard drive leaving Doune frustrated knowing they had contributed to their own downfall in a tie they had controlled for the first 45 minutes. Doune Castle: Scott, D Innes, More, Feaks, G Gallagher (Morrison), McClymont, A Innes, Statter, Skinner, Inglis, Burns Substitutes: B Gallagher
