P7 Information evening Parents Information evening for the 2018 intake of S1 pupils is being held on Tuesday, September 26 from 6.30-8.30pm. Further information will be provided nearer the time. Senior Prizegiving The annual event is being held in the school’s assembly hall on Tuesday, September 5. All guests are to be seated by 7.15pm prompt. This is the first time that Stirling High School has had the senior prizegiving at this time of year. Prizes are being awarded to last session’s S4, S5 and S6 pupils based solely on their SQA results which were issued in August. School photo Weather permitting, a whole school photograph will be taken in the morning on the playing fields on Thursday, September 7. Please ensure that all pupils are wearing full school uniform for this special photograph which will be available to purchase.

S6 Buddy Lunch During the first week of term, all S1 classes are allocated an S6 buddy to help them get their bearings around the school. This culminated in an organised fun lunch on Thursday, August 24. A huge thank you to the S6 Buddy Team for organising the welcome lunch. It was a great success and it was enjoyed by all involved. FAST Group Business Education teacher Mrs Kettles is now recruiting pupils who are looking to get an apprenticeship or go into employment at the end of this academic year. FAST (Future Apprentices of St Modan’s) will prepare pupils for getting an apprenticeship and open up the doors to many different employment opportunities. All S4-S6 who are interested are encouraged to join. Art News At the start of the new term, there is already some exciting events to report from the Art and Design Department. Amy McGuire (S6) took part in a creative and exciting week long art course over the holidays. She was introduced to new skills and developed ideas more fully in a creative and artistic environment. Amy’s works will be appearing in an art exhibition before being returned to thew school. After a year of diligently working on a sensitive and beautiful portfolio for Advanced Higher Art, Aimee Finlay has been accepted into Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art. She will be meeting former pupils when she joins some of other artistic pupils collecting their medals in Kelvingrove Art Galleries in September. Already some amazing artists have been spotted in S1 and it is hope they will find way to Doodle Club, Sewing Club and Junk Kouture Club over the coming weeks. SQA Results Congratulations to all pupils who received their exam results over the summer. Paris Trip The Modern Languages department ran its traditional trip to Paris during the last week of term in June. Visitors saw the Eiffel Tower, Sacré Coeur and L’Arc de Triomphe as well as visiting Parc Asterix and Disneyland Paris. The pupils had a fantastic time and were a credit to the school while on the trip. Staff news As the new session began the school welcomed new colleagues to the permanent staff - Mr Henderson (Mathematics), Ms McRae (Gaelic) and Ms Biancone (Pupil Support, Learning); temporary staff - Mrs Burnett (Learning Support), Miss Lister (Physical Education), Miss Angus (Music). The following newly qualified teachers join the school for the session ahead - Mrs Oxburgh (Biology), Miss Stirling (Business Education), Miss McKenzie (English), Miss McFarlane (History), Miss Jarvie (Home Economics), Mr Shankland (Mathematics), Miss Deaney (Physical Education), Miss Galbraith (Physical Education).
Advanced Higher Biology Pupils began the session with a two-day visit to Forth Valley College. The pupils were given the opportunity to take part in a number of laboratory experiments, and to gather data for their course work. The college setting allows pupils to use equipment that perhaps would not be available in school, and to experience the independence student life. Edinburgh Book Festival A small group of S2 pupil visited the Edinburgh Book Festival this week with librarian Mrs Waters and English teacher Mrs Harrington. The pupils attended a talk given by young adult author Elizabeth Wein before enjoying the sights and sounds of the festival.
