Emma’s championship success

-

Teenager Emma Mailer moved up in age categories but still proved to be one of the best at the Scottish Under 20 Championships.

The Central AC 15 year-old stepped up to take on the 400m hurdles, an event she recently won at the Celtic Games in Dublin.

Up against older athletes, she put a strong run to challenge for the lead all the way and it was only in the home straight that Emily Craig, of Whitemoss, pulled clear with Emma holding on for silver in a personal best time of 64.00.

High jumper Cameron McCorgray also made it on to the podium.

Competing in the windier conditions on Saturday made jumping difficult but Cameron cleared 1.81m for a silver medal.

Elizabeth Thompson stepped up an age group in the 400m and made light of the windy conditions as she qualified through for the final in a PB 61.12s.

She then went even faster in the final for fifth in 60.48.

Jack Houghton ran a PB 15.95 in the 110m hurdles for sixth and was unlucky in the 400m hurdles when he hit the final barrier and finished a respectable fourth place in 62.12.

Central AC’s senior women’s high jump club record holder Amy Gullen was making a welcome return to club colours.

She was unable to improve on her record but still cleared 1.56m for sixth.

And another sixth place came the way of Bradley Scott in the men’s 1500m in a season’s best 4.18.19 while Lauren McCulloch was seventh in the women’s 1500m in 5.08.83.
