Ten Central Athletic Club senior athletes landed five medals at the Scottish Track and Field Championships at Grangemouth at the weekend with Dale Colley’s gold taking pride of place.

The 1500 metres was the final track event on Sunday when in a tactical race, Dale always put himself in the right place to sprint past 2016 champion Matthew White (Derby AC) for a fine victory in a season’s best time of 3.56.85.

Saturday’s 3000 metre steeplechase saw strong challenges from Aidan Thompson (9.34.17) and Michael Wright (9.39.45) to win silver and bronze medals while David Lindsay was sixth place in 10.42.14.

Alastair Hay was to the fore in the 5000 metres where he ran strongly to take the bronze medal with a season’s best of 14.27.64 while in the same race Fraser Logan reduced his personal best by 10 seconds to 16.04.14.

Amy Gullen picked up Central’s sole field event bronze with an equal season’s best clearance of 1.61m in the high jump to further underline her consistency in the event.

Graham Porterfield was just outside the medals with a fourth place of 11.53m and a season’s best in the shot put.

Peter Muirhead continues to experiment with a left foot take-off in the long jump and had a best effort of 6.74m doubling up with heat and semi-final runs in the 100 metres of 11.17 and 11.24 while Michael Currie was close to his personal best with 22.94 effort in the 200 metres.
