Councillors to visit Engine Shed over disabled parking
Councillors have agreed to hold a site visit and hearing in a row over disabled parking provision at Stirling Engine Shed.
Stirling Council’s planning panel agreed yesterday (Tuesday) to defer a decision on the bid by Historic Environment Scotland, who are seeking to have a condition requiring them to provide on-site disabled parking dropped.
The hearing and site visit were agreed following a request by Riverside Community Council, Stirling Area Access Panel and local councillor Danny Gibson.
Operators HES had submitted the application after it emerged the nearest disabled parking spaces were outwith the 45 metre regulatatory distance and dedicated spaces closer to the Engine Shed had not been provided in the finished product.
The access panel say HES and council planners have a duty to ensure that the condition regarding disabled parking was complied with.

possible to provide the spaces alongside the completed £11 million facility, however objectors say this is only because the condition was ignored and HES’application to remove the condition is “reprehensible”.
More recently a possible solution to the row has been put forward, with suggestions that two spaces could be created at the side of the complex to the left of its front door - but only if all parties agree.
