Credit union marks move to new base
Stirling Credit Union has moved to new offices in the city’s Spittal Street.
Provost Christine Simpson cut the ribbon to declare the new premises open.
The credit union has over 1000 adult and junior members and manages nearly £1 million of members’ savings.
Chair Gordon Stewart said the new office represented a milestone in the transition to having a membership that is open to everyone in Stirling and the wider community.
He added:“Ethical finance means that savings are secure, interest rates fair and membership open to all without discrimination and that is exactly what credit unions provide.”
He thanked everyone who had helped the credit union to reach this point in its development.
Guests at the opening included councillors, community councillors, payroll savings employers and schools savings club representatives .
Provost Simpson expressed her appreciation for the valuable role that the credit union plays in the lives of many people in Stirling.
Stirling Credit Union evolved from the Stirling Council Credit Union, which was started in the late 1990s for the benefit of council employees.
In 2009 it changed its name to Scotcentral Credit Union when became a community credit union to include individuals who work or live the Stirling and Clackmannanshire council areas and parts of Lanarkshire.
In 2013 the name was changed to Stirling Credit Union.
The new office is open Tuesday to Friday. The credit union’s offices were formerly in Port Street, Stirling.
