Protesters march to defy Holyrood

Anger over Park of Keir decision

- Kaiya Marjoribanks

Protestors devastated by the decision to back development at Park of Keir are to voice their anger later this month at a march to the site.

Campaign group Rage (Residents Against Greenbelt Erosion) are planning a Walk for Park of Keir on Saturday, September 16.

They say they hope the event will allow them to “enjoy what we are about to lose” and also raise awareness of their feelings about the decision.

Rage members met on Thursday after Scottish Government ministers gave the go-ahead to the Judy Murray-backed Park of Keir development.

Rage spokesperson Inga Bullen said: “We are stunned by this decision from the minister for planning Kevin Stewart.

“He has overruled the public inquiry. That is effectively overruling the whole planning system for which he is responsible.

“He has disagreed with the reporter, who studied the whole issue and listened to all parties at the public inquiry and then made recommendations based on his expertise as a senior planner.

“Not only has the minister disagreed but he has given no justification or evidence to support his view.

“It is astonishing that this can be democracy. It does not feel like it.

“It feels like there is one law for ordinary folk and another for people with money or celebrity.”

Protesters will meet at 10.45am, either at Bridge of Allan Railway Station or at Marks and Spencer car park in Dunblane, and converge at the top of the hill on Park of Keir.

The walk should take around 40 minutes to the top of Gallow Hill.
