Apprentices take up Active service

-

Five recent school leavers have been taken on as Modern Apprentices with Active Stirling.

The youngsters are attached to learning communities and will work alongside Active Stirling’s Active Schools network and club development officers to create opportunities and pathways in sport and physical activity.

The programme provides young people vital vocational learning, while gaining an SVQ L3 in Leisure Management and industry recognised coaching qualifications.

Over the years Active Stirling has had some excellent apprentices and many of them are still working for the company while doing further studies.

This year’s new recruits have all come via sport leadership programmes that the Active Schools team support within Stirling secondary schools.

Callum MacDonald, Carly Lauder and Steven Connell have all attended Active Stirling’s holiday programmes and other activities as children and join Angus Motiona nd Sarah Berrie as the new apprentices. Active Stirling is also working in partnership with St Modan’s High School where Steven is going to be based, supporting curricular, extra-curricular and the ASN unit within the school.

Mark Findlay, Active Stirling coaching manager, said: “Modern apprenticeship is a great way to bring new blood into the organisation, the young people bring a real enthusiasm and energy to the company and this energy transmits to the children they coach.”

Callum said:“I have always viewed Active Stirling as a well-respected organisation and an essential figure in keeping so many youngsters active and fit in the Stirling community.

“So when the opportunity came up that I could potentially work for the organisation as a Modern Apprentice I grabbed it with both hands.”
