Comic Daniel’s honest approach

- Robert Fairnie

Top Scots comedian Daniel Sloss will kick off his new tour with a performance at the Macrobert this week.

Fresh from a series of sell-out shows at his 10th Edinburgh Fringe Festival the 26-year-old will take to the stage on Friday evening.

The award-winning comic is set to embark on a three month tour of his new show entitled NOW.

And he insists his comedy has been developing over the years to the point where his new offering is his most honest yet.

He said:“For years my comedy was fine – but there was no substance of truth to it when I started. I’d just talk about things that wound me up.

“It’s only in the past four years I’ve started being myself on stage.

“I’m a very dark person deep down and every year I just try to bleed it out a little bit more. It’s a case of, let’s see if we can get away with this. Is this a normal thought? Am I a crazy person?

“The only way to find out is to say it to a room full of strangers and see if they laugh.”

Ever since the comedian came to prominence onTV’s SoYouThinkYou Are Funny at the age of 17 he has brought a new solo show to the Edinburgh fringe every year – and sold it out.

And after notching up his tenth appearance at the festival Daniel added: “I love it. For many reasons. I spent a lot of years on the circuit not feeling like I belonged.

“I got a lot of TV work early on and I was getting a lot of big gigs, but I felt like an imposter, like I hadn’t really earned my stripes.

“Nobody made me feel that way, it was just me. The comedy circuit has been incredibly supportive, but now, having ten under my belt, nobody questions my stripes.
