City gin on awards shortlist

- Robert Fairnie

Stirling Gin is in the running to win three prizes at a top national awards ceremony.

The business, which was started up by husband and wife team Cameron and June McCann, has been nominated in a trio of categories at the Scottish Gin Awards.

They will be bidding to take home first prize for London Dry Gin of the Year, Growth Business of the Year and Scottish Gin Event of the Year.

And they will find out their fate at a formal dinner held at the Hilton in Glasgow tomorrow (Thursday) night.

The founders distilled their very first batch in a copper pot at home just two years ago, and Cameron insists he is proud of how far they have come in such a short time.

He said: “We are thrilled and very proud to have been nominated in three categories – particularly since we are one of the youngest gins to have been nominated in the finals.

“We are also delighted to be flying the flag for Stirling. The key ingredient in our gin is the wild Stirlingshire nettle which helps give our gin its unique big nose, and to have this type of recognition so early in our journey is tremendous and very exciting.”

Stirling Gin have also been nominated in three categories – Best Startup Business, Best Micro Business and Forth Valley’s Favourite Business – and the upcoming Forth Valley Chamber of Commerce Business Awards.
