Lily’s gift to sharks

-

Stirling youngster Lily Johnstone gave up her eighth birthday party recently to raise funds for some of the sea’s most amazing creatures - sharks.

The Riverside Primary School pupil joined her mum Rowan, little sister Mia, grandad Ian and uncle Magnus at Broughty Ferry beach where Ian lives, having decided to hold a litter pick in aid of The Shark Trust.

Mum Rowan said:“Lily loves the sea and all its creatures, however sharks hold a special place in her heart. Lily is very troubled by the impact humans are having on the ecosystem and she would like to do something to help.”

Her birthday was on August 8 but it was last Saturday before the event could be organised and already she has passed her £100 target with her JustGiving page currently sitting on £135. The page can be found at www. justgiving.com/ fundraising/ lily-johnstone.

•Around a quarter of the 1000 or so species of sharks and rays are considered“threatened”, largely due to the impact of unsustainable fisheries and The Shark Trust works to ensure endangered species of sharks are suitably protected, while also pushing for sciencebased fisheries management for all species to ensure long term sustainability.
