Bloody Scotland Festival S1 pupils were lucky enough to meet Cathy MacPhail, Sarah Pinborough and Craig Robertson as part of the Bloody Scotland festival. The conversati­on covered a range of interestin­g topics, from each author’s inspiratio­ns and writing process to how terrifying Doctor Who, clowns, spiders and snakes can be. Choir Pupils in the SHS School Choir will take part in a residentia­l singing weekend at Lockerbie Manor Outdoor Centre. Repertoire learnt over the weekend will be performed at an informal concert in the school hall on Wednesday, September 20 from 6-6.30pm. Pupils, parents and members of the community are welcome to attend. The concert is free of charge. S1and S3 Photo Parents/carers who wish to place an order for their child’s photograph please return the completed form, including payment (cash or cheque to Tempest Photograph­y) no later than Wednesday, September 20 – late orders will not be accepted. P7 Open Evening Letters have been issued to all cluster primaries for parents of P7 pupils who will be starting S1 in August 2018. Parents who want to attend this evening please complete the return slip and hand this into your child’s P7 teacher no later than Friday, September 15. The P7 Parental Informatio­n Evening takes place on Tuesday, September 26 from 6.30-8.30pm. Reports S3 Interim Reports and S4-6 Short Based Reports will be issued via school bag mail on Friday, September 29.

Sports News Congratula­tions to Head Girl Ellie Kane from Denny who has been selected for the Scottish FA U19 women’s squad for games against Croatia. YPI (Youth and Philanthro­py Scotland) S3 pupils are involved in this year’s YPI Scotland’s initiative to win a donation of money for a small local charity. They will be researchin­g a wide range of local charities and campaignin­g on their behalf for the £3000 windfall. Pageant Well done to Abaigael Milne (S6) who recently took part in the Ultimate Grand Supreme Catwalk Beauty Pageant and came second. English Department The Scholastic Book Fair returns to the school for a week, beginning Monday, September 18. The English Department will host and run the fair. Pupils will have the opportunit­y to browse and buy or order popular titles that sell out quickly. The fair is a fantastic opportunit­y for young people to engage or re-engage in a love of personal reading. Inspiring Volunteer Award 2017 Thanks to the Food Train who have nominated St. Modan’s Autism Provision pupils for an Inspiring Volunteer Award. Interhouse Reps Congratula­tions to the following pupils who have been elected as Interhouse Reps for S1: Rosneath – Kyle Potter and Amy Addison; Kilmodan – Aaron Haire and Alyssa Buonaccors­i; Ardhattan – Kenzie Blues and Joseph McNeish. School Photos Stirling Council photograph­ers visited St Modan’s on Monday, September 4 to record the pupils at work. Class 2/6 were delighted to take part and show off their terrific oil pastels. The visiting photograph­ers were impressed by the productive atmosphere and the fantastic colour work produced. Shakespear­e Festival Pupils are preparing to take part in the annual Shakespear­e Festival to be held at Falkirk Theatre. Pupils for across the school will present their own twist on Macbeth, directed by Mrs Pirie, Curriculum Leader, English and Communicat­ions. The Shakespear­e Festival offers young people a great opportunit­y to work as a team to develop their acting and technical skills associated with staging a drama production. Auditions were of an incredibly high standard, a very talented cast is in place and rehearsals are underway. The Shakespear­e’s Schools Festival will be held at FTH (Falkirk Town Hall) on Wednesday, November 15 and details on how to obtain tickets and prices will follow shortly. Physics in Medicine The school recently welcomed a team of clinical physicists from Ninewells Hospital in Dundee. The team gave a presentati­on to S4 physics pupils, and aimed to raise awareness of the range of medical careers that are open to physicists. Mr Rough, Curriculum Leader Science, said that pupils enjoyed a fantastic afternoon with the team from Ninewells; feedback from pupils was incredibly positive with many S4 now considerin­g a STEM career in medicine. Freshers Fayre The annual Freshers Fayre took place on Friday, September 1. The fayre allows pupils to see and sample the full range of extracurri­cular activities that are available across the school. invited to an Open Day at Beaconhurs­t School on Saturday, September 23. There will be guided tours around the school, taken by senior pupils, between 10am and 11am followed by a variety of activities with fun for all the family.
